Every estimate on this site is produced by software from marketplace data. It is information, not an offer to buy, not a guarantee of what an item will sell for, and not an appraisal for insurance, tax, estate, lending, or legal purposes.
How estimates are made
Appraise identifies a photographed item with an AI vision model and image matching against our catalog, then prices it from live asking prices and recorded sales for that item, close relatives of it, or, when nothing closer exists, the category as a whole. The M³ Price Index is an equal-weight basket of typical asking prices across vinyl, poster, apparel, and jersey for each artist. Estimated values on catalog and collection pages come from the same data.
Appraise always returns a number. When the evidence is thin, the result says so with a wider range and a lower confidence, but the figure is still a model output built from the nearest data we have, and it can be wrong.
What can make an estimate wrong
- The item was misidentified, or matched to a different pressing, print, size, or edition.
- Condition, signatures, provenance, and completeness are only partly visible in a photo.
- Asking prices are what sellers hope for, not what buyers paid. Sales data lags the market and is thin for rare pieces.
- Reproductions, bootlegs, and print-on-demand copies circulate alongside genuine items and can distort the comparables.
- Markets move. An estimate describes the data at the moment it was generated.
Authenticity
Labels such as official, licensed, or unofficial are derived automatically from listing evidence and are best-effort signals about the market for an item. They are not authentication of any specific piece you own or are considering buying, and they are not statements about any particular seller.
Using estimates responsibly
Treat an estimate as a starting point for your own research. For insurance, estate, tax, or legal purposes, use a licensed appraiser who can examine the item in person. Purchases through links on this site are made with third-party sellers under their terms.
