This policy explains what Music Merch Marketplace LLC (“Music Merch Marketplace”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use musicmerchmarketplace.com and the services that link to it, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It is part of our Terms of Service.
The short version: we collect what you give us (an account, photos, item details, an optional location) and how you use the site. Photos you send to Appraise are analyzed by a third-party AI provider and are not kept. Photos you add to your collection are stored at public web addresses. We do not sell personal information or run targeted advertising.
1. What we collect
Account information
When you sign up with an email address and password, we store the email and a hashed password. When you sign in with Google, Google sends us your name, email address, and profile picture. You can add a username, display name, avatar, and bio.
Location, if you choose to share it
Signed-in users can set a location so nearby shows rank first. You can type a city or use your browser’s location, which asks your permission first. We store the city or region label and its coordinates on your profile. We do not derive your location from your IP address, and you can clear it at any time.
How you heard about us
After signup we ask, optionally, how you found the site and, if the answer is a concert, which one. We use this to understand where new users come from and to run giveaways for concert-goers.
Photos and item details
- Appraise. A photo you submit is processed in memory to identify the item and estimate its value, then discarded. We do not store appraisal photos. We record that an appraisal happened, its outcome type, and the item category. If you save an appraisal to your collection, the details you saved are stored with it. If you tell us what an item is after an appraisal, that description (not the photo) may create a pending entry in our catalog for review.
- Collection and want lists. Titles, artist, category, condition, year, notes, purchase price, estimated value, size, and any photos you upload.
Usage information
We use PostHog to measure how the site is used: page views, searches, clicks on Buy links (with the destination and rounded price), and when Appraise, collection, and want-list features are used. When you are signed in these events are tied to your account id. We do not record your screen or sessions, and analytics is off on our internal admin pages. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP address, browser type, and the pages requested, for security and debugging.
Cookies
We set cookies to keep you signed in and a PostHog cookie that gives your browser an analytics identifier. We do not use advertising cookies. When you follow a link to eBay or another partner, their site sets its own cookies under their policies; see our Affiliate Disclosure.
Information about marketplace sellers
Our catalog is built from publicly available listings on eBay, Discogs, artists’ own stores, and similar sources. Those listings include the seller’s public username and feedback figures. We use listing text, images, and seller inventory to decide automatically which listings fit the site, for example to keep print-on-demand copies out of the catalog. These are internal signals about inventory, and we do not publish them as statements about a seller. If you are a seller and want to discuss how your listings appear, contact us at the address below.
2. How we use information
- to run the Service: sign you in, show your collection, rank events near you, and price items;
- to build and improve the catalog and the systems that identify, match, and price items, as described in section 4 of the Terms;
- to understand how the site is used and fix what is broken;
- to communicate with you about your account, including confirmation and password-reset email;
- to run giveaways you opted into;
- to keep the Service secure, enforce our Terms, and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising or share it with advertisers.
3. AI processing and subprocessors
Appraise works by sending your photo to an AI model. We use OpenRouter (OpenRouter, Inc.) as a subprocessor, and OpenRouter routes each request to a model provider such as OpenAI or Google. What is sent: the photo you submit, and, for items in your collection and want lists, the title and details you entered along with the first photo, so the item can be matched against the catalog. These providers process the data to return a result and are contractually restricted from using it for other purposes; we do not opt into any provider’s model training. We do not send your name, email, or account id with these requests.
Other service providers that process data for us:
- Supabase: database, authentication, and file storage.
- Vercel: web hosting and server logs.
- PostHog: usage analytics.
- Google: sign-in with Google, if you use it.
- Komoot Photon: turns a typed place name or coordinates into a city label when you set a location.
- eBay, Discogs, Spotify, SoundCloud, Ticketmaster, SeatGeek, MusicBrainz, Firecrawl, sold-comps.com: sources of catalog, event, and price data. We send them queries about artists and items, not information about you, except that eBay receives our affiliate identifier when you click a link to eBay.
We may also share information when required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or the public, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to it.
4. What is public
Your profile name and avatar may be shown with things you post. Items in your collection are public by default; you can mark an item private when you add or edit it. Photos you upload to your collection or a want list are stored in a public storage bucket: each photo has a web address that anyone who has the link can open, whether or not the item is private, and it is not listed or searchable on its own. Do not upload photos that show people, documents, addresses, or anything else you would not want seen.
Under the Terms, photos and item details you submit may be used to build the public catalog, without attribution to you. Your private notes, purchase prices, and the fact that an item is yours are not part of that.
5. Retention and deletion
We keep your account information and content for as long as you have an account. Appraise photos are never stored. Analytics events are kept in aggregate to understand usage over time.
You can delete your account from your account settings. Deleting it removes your collection, want lists, likes, saved items, watchlist, notifications, and follows, signs you out everywhere, and deletes your login. Your profile record is anonymized rather than removed so that references to it elsewhere stay consistent, with your name, avatar, bio, email, and location cleared. Image files you uploaded may remain in storage for a period after deletion; email us at the address below and we will remove specific files on request. Catalog entries and derived data built with the help of your content may be retained where they no longer identify you.
If eBay tells us a marketplace seller has closed their account, we remove that seller’s username and feedback from our listings and seller records. The listing itself (title, photos, price) may remain as a record of the item.
6. Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile, location, and collection items, and mark items private, from the site.
- You can decline the browser location prompt and skip the referral question.
- You can delete your account at any time.
- You can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete personal information we hold about you, and we will respond within the time the law requires. Residents of California, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other places with privacy laws may have additional rights, including to object to certain processing and to complain to a supervisory authority. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising these rights.
To make a request, email legal@musicmerchmarketplace.com from the address on your account, or include enough detail for us to verify it is you.
7. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep it to yourself.
9. Where data is processed
We are based in the United States and our providers process data there and in other countries. If you use the Service from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and handled in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
10. Changes
We will update this policy as the Service changes. The effective date at the top tells you when it last changed, and we will give notice on the Service or by email for changes that materially affect you.
